
Visiting the Pearl of Africa: Uganda
Uganda, referred to as the Pearl of Africa, is one of East Africa's original 3 states and it is known for its beauty and interesting adventures. Unfortunately, people sometimes forget about Uganda when making their travel plans to Africa and it is truly a shame really because Uganda is definitely worth visiting.
Beautiful Waterways
You can see the world's longest river, the Nile, in Uganda. In total, it is 6,000 km long and you can see a portion of it at the shores of Lake Victoria, which looks like a small ocean. Lake Victoria is surrounded by beaches and palm trees. For those that want to see waterfalls, Bujagali Falls and Owen Falls are just a couple of the waterfalls that can be found in Uganda. No matter which one you see, you are bound to be impressed by the sheer power of water cascading down. In addition to all of this, there are quite a few enchanting lakes scattered around Uganda including Lake Edward, Lake Bugondo, Lake Albert, Lake Bujuku and Lake George.
Unprocessed Foods
Uganda is a great place to go for those that like to eat healthily. You will find an abundance of fresh fruits and vegetables there. Bananas are readily grown and you will have no problem finding some to purchase. Jackfruit, papaya and pineapples are readily found and they tend to be juicy and full of flavor. You can also find an assortment of vegetables and nuts. While in Uganda, you must try the coffee. Both Arabica and Robusta beans are grown here and both are outstanding.
Diverse Wildlife
Travelers that love diverse wildlife should take a Uganda safari. You can see a variety of animals like elephants, wildebeest, zebra, giraffes, chimpanzees and antelope. Some animals you may need to go to a sanctuary to see, like the white rhinos and cape buffalos. The bird population tends to be large here as well. There are more than 1,000 different species of birds that can be found in Uganda. These include cranes, storks, parrots and herons. Many tourists visit Uganda to participate in mountain gorilla treks. Located in the southwest part of Uganda, Bwindi Impenetrable National Park offers gorilla treks and is home to various mammals, reptiles and birds.
Interesting Landscapes
Travelers to Uganda will enjoy interesting landscapes. There are numerous mountains like The Mountains of the Moon and the 16,762 feet tall Mount Stanley. Those that want to see this mountain up close, often do so by visiting the Rwenzori National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Uganda is also home to rainforests. Numerous wildlife, flora and fauna can be found here. There is a lot of biodiversity in each one of them and because of the large amounts of rainfall that this country receives consistently, they almost always tend to look lush and beautiful.
