
Africa Excursion Activities
Africa is home to the Big Five: buffalo, elephants, leopards, lions and rhinoceroses, but Africa is so much more than safaris. While many travelers go to Africa to go on a safari and see some of these animals, this can be unattainable for many travelers with many safaris starting at $5,000 a person. If you don't want to spend this amount of money, there are a lot of other things you can do in Africa that will allow you to see animals and have a good time.
Water-Related Activities
A river cruise is a great way to see parts of Africa. A platoon boat can navigate through the immense waters and allow you to see much of nature. Kayaking is another great opportunity to partake in. Many see this as the ultimate adventure as they are kayaking in waters filled with alligators. Don't worry though as you will be perfectly safe as long as you stay in your boat.
Horseback Riding
The iSimangaliso Wetlands is the perfect spot to go horseback riding. You will be able to go to parts of the wetlands that you couldn't get to by foot or by vehicle. Don't be surprised though if you see giraffes running by you!
Microlight Flight
This interesting contraption will really make you feel like you are flying. You can fly across the coastline and catch dolphins and sea turtles swimming below. If you're lucky you might even be able to see a whale or two. You can book a microlight flight near Durban which is only about 3 hours from St. Lucia.
Zip Lining
There are numerous zip lining adventures available in Africa. Canopy tours are a great way to see nature as you never have before. As you are gliding through the trees with the wind whipping through your hair, don't forget to look all around you for the numerous animals that might be hiding below. Both Tsitsikamma and Durban have a variety of zip lining opportunities available.
Cango Caves
This is one of the oldest attractions in Africa. It's fairly easy to walk through this massive cave systems if you just go the standard route. If you are up for more of a challenge there are more narrow passageways that only have openings opening that are about 10 �½ inches wide in some places. Be on the lookout for bats and other creatures that might be in the caves.
Cango Ostrich Farm
If you are curious about these interesting birds then you must visit Cango Ostrich Farm. You can learn all there is about ostriches including how they are raised and taken care of at the farm. If you want to do something truly unique, you can actually ride on an ostrich! While fun, riding an ostrich can be kind of awkward and they can take off with a seconds notice so be prepared for a crazy ride.
Cage Diving
One of the greatest adventures you can have in Africa is diving with great white sharks. Don't worry though because you will be safely placed in a cage before going underwater. Bait is used to attract the sharks so that they will come close enough to the cage so you can see them in action. It's fun and thrilling at the same time.
